Get ready to grow – funding available to boost enterprising ideas that improve community spaces (Wales only)

Today, we open new funding to help enterprising community organisations across Wales that benefit local people and the environment grow their sustainable income.

Our funding is split into two strands – grants of up to £10,000 for organisations looking to explore enterprising ideas that could increase their income, and interest-free loans of up to £50,000 to grow more established business ideas.

The funding has been donated by Co-op from the sale of 5p single-use carrier bags in Welsh Co-op stores. This means that for every bag bought in Wales, we’re working together with Co-op to benefit the environment and strengthen communities.

What can my organisation apply for?

• Grants of up to £10,000: Funding will help organisations explore enterprising ideas that could contribute to a more sustainable future for their community space. Funding could support feasibility costs, technical/legal fees or pilots to test new ideas.

• Interest-free loans of £10,000 to £50,000: Funding will grow more established business ideas. Loans should usually be repaid within five years and you don’t need to make repayments in the first year. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for a grant.

We’re already funding ‘Welcome to our Woods’

Welcome to our Woods, based in the Rhondda Fawr valley, in south Wales, manages woodlands to help trees and wildlife thrive. Our funding supports them to convert waste wood into sellable products like furniture and biomass on a much larger scale. This raises extra income, which helps them maintain more areas of woodlands sustainably, and provides jobs and volunteering opportunities for local people.

Why community spaces?

We’re Co-op’s charity and we’ve been supporting community spaces UK-wide to become more sustainable by growing their trading activities since 2017.

In 2018, we invested in helping 11 community spaces become more financially sustainable, strengthening communities and building connections and a sense of belonging for local people.

Heddiw, rydym yn agor cyllid newydd i helpu sefydliadau cymunedol mentrus ledled Cymru sydd o fudd i bobl leol a’r amgylchedd i dyfu eu hincwm cynaliadwy.

Mae yna ddwy lefel i’n cyllid – grantiau hyd at £10,000 ar gyfer sefydliadau sydd eisiau archwilio syniadau mentrus a allai gynyddu eu hincwm, a benthyciadau di-log hyd at £50,000 i ddatblygu syniadau busnes mwy sefydledig.

Beth all fy sefydliad wneud cais amdano?

• Grantiau hyd at £10,000: Bydd y cyllid  yn helpu sefydliadau i archwilio syniadau mentrus a allai gyfrannu at ddyfodol mwy cynaliadwy ar gyfer eu gofod cymunedol. Gallai’r cyllid gefnogi costau dichonoldeb, ffioedd technolegol/cyfreithiol neu gynlluniau peilot i brofi syniadau newydd.

  • Dyddiad cau: Hanner dydd (12pm) ar ddydd Gwener 21 Mehefin.
• Benthyciadau di-log rhwng £10,000 a £50,000: Bydd y cyllid hwn yn datblygu syniadau busnes mwy sefydledig. Dylai benthyciadau fel arfer cael eu had-dalu o fewn pum mlynedd.  Nid oes angen gwneud ad-daliadau yn ystod y flwyddyn gyntaf. Yn dibynnu ar eich amgylchiadau, gallech hefyd fod yn gymwys i gael grant.

Rydym eisoes yn ariannu ‘Croeso i’n Coedwig’

Mae’r bartneriaeth Croeso i’n Coedwig, sydd wedi’i lleoli yng ngwm Rhondda Fawr, yn rheoli coetiroedd i helpu coed a bywyd gwyllt i ffynnu. Mae ein harian yn eu cefnogi i droi pren gwastraff yn gynhyrchion y gellir eu gwerthu megis dodrefn a biomas ar raddfa llawer mwy. Mae hyn yn codi incwm ychwanegol, sy’n eu helpu i gynnal mwy o ardaloedd o goetiroedd yn gynaliadwy, ac yn darparu swyddi a chyfleoedd gwirfoddoli i bobl leol.

Pam ardaloedd cymunedol?

Ni yw elusen y Co-op ac ers 2017 rydym wedi bod yn cefnogi ardaloedd cymunedol ledled y DU i ddod yn fwy cynaliadwy trwy dyfu eu gweithgareddau masnachu.

Yn 2018, gwnaethom fuddsoddi i helpu 11 o ardaloedd cymunedol i ddod yn fwy cynaliadwy yn ariannol, gan gryfhau cymunedau a meithrin cysylltiadau ac ymdeimlad o berthyn ymhlith pobl leol.
